How Much Does an Air Conditioner Service or Repair Cost in Melbourne?
At Ideal Air Melbourne, our first visit is $292 including GST. That covers travel and tolls, up to one hour on site working on one system, and a written report with photographs. Repairs and parts are extra and quoted before repair work starts.
When you ring around, the first price you hear can be hard to compare. One company might include an hour on site. Another might quote a call-out fee and charge time separately. Before you book, ask what is included and what could be added.
What Does the Visit Fee Cover?
Ask whether the price includes travel, tolls and time on site. Then ask what the technician will actually do in that time. A service and a breakdown visit can involve different work, even when the first fee is the same.
At Ideal Air, the first-visit fee covers getting a qualified technician to your property, up to an hour working on one system, and a written record of what we find. That applies to a split system, a ducted system and a gas ducted heater alike. Additional systems, additional indoor heads and extra time can change the total.
What Makes a Repair Cost More or Less
The repair price depends on what has failed, which part the system needs, and the labour to replace it and check the system is working properly. We need to look at the system before we can give you a firm price.
If we have the part on the van, we may be able to complete the repair on the first visit. If it needs to be ordered, we will explain the repair and give you a fixed price, covering parts and labour, before going ahead. There is no second call-out fee when we come back.
Ask whether a repair quote includes parts, labour, GST and any return-visit charges. That gives you a total you can compare, rather than just the price of a part.
What if you have More than One Air Conditioner?
For two separate systems serviced on the same visit, our fees are $292 for the first and $110 for the second: $402 including GST. On a multi-head system, $292 covers the outdoor unit and the first indoor head, and each additional indoor head serviced is $80. The pricing page has the full rules.
Questions to Ask Before Booking
- – What does the visit fee include, and how much time is included?
- – What does extra time cost, and are partial blocks charged?
- – Are parts and repair labour included, or quoted separately?
- – If the technician needs to come back, is there another call-out or labour charge?
- – What service work or checks will be done?
- – Will I receive a written report?
- – Does the price include GST?
Once you have those answers, it is much easier to compare quotes.
Why Service a System that is Still Working
You do not have to wait for a breakdown to have your air conditioner checked. Servicing helps keep it running properly and can pick up maintenance issues before they become bigger problems.
Booking before the summer heat or the winter cold also gives you time to deal with anything we find before you are relying on the system every day.
