Why a CO2 heat pump
A heat pump does not burn gas or run a heating element. It takes heat from the outside air and moves it into your water.
Daikin rates its unit at a nominal coefficient of performance of 6.15, which means around six units of heat for each unit of electricity used under test conditions. If you have solar panels, you can set it to heat during the day and run largely on your own power.
What you get with the Daikin system
Built for Melbourne winters
Runs in outdoor temperatures from minus 10°C up to 43°C and heats water to 63°C.
Quiet
A sound pressure level of 38 dB(A), so the outdoor unit can sit near bedrooms and neighbours.
Natural refrigerant
Uses CO2 (R744), with a global warming potential of 1 and zero ozone depletion.
Built to last
Duplex stainless steel tank and an anti-corrosion coated outdoor coil.
Heat when it suits you
Schedule heating for solar hours or off-peak rates. Optional Wi-Fi control through the Daikin Airbase app.

Rental providers: the rules change on 1 March 2027
From 1 March 2027, when a hot water system in a Victorian rental fails and cannot be repaired, it must be replaced with an efficient electric system, such as a heat pump. A gas system can no longer be replaced with another gas system.
If you manage rentals, we can assess your properties now so a failure does not become an emergency.

Government incentives
Both Daikin tank sizes are approved under the federal Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme, so your installation creates small-scale technology certificates (STCs) that come off the price at the point of sale. The value depends on where you live and the market price of the certificates on the day, so we work it out for your home and show it on your quote.
Frequently asked questions
Does a heat pump work in a Melbourne winter?
Yes. The Daikin unit is rated to run in outdoor temperatures down to minus 10°C, colder than Melbourne gets, and still heats water to 63°C.
Should I choose the 250 or 315 litre tank?
Daikin recommends the 250 litre tank for homes of up to 3 bedrooms and the 315 litre tank for up to 5 bedrooms. We confirm the right size at the assessment based on how many people live in the home and how you use hot water.
Can it run off my solar panels?
Yes. You can schedule it to heat during daylight hours so it uses your own solar power, or set it to run on off-peak rates.
How noisy is it?
Daikin lists a sound pressure level of 38 dB(A), which is quiet enough to install near living areas and fence lines.
What warranty does it come with?
Daikin provides a 10 year parts and labour warranty on the hot water heat pump system, and 2 years on the fittings kit and pressure relief valve.
I own a rental property. What do I need to do before 2027?
Nothing changes while your current system works. From 1 March 2027, if it fails and cannot be repaired, the replacement must be an efficient electric system such as a heat pump. Planning the change before it fails avoids a rushed replacement.
